The first-aid requirement

Under 77 Ill. Adm. Code 690, an assisted living establishment must have at all times at least one direct-care staff person who is CPR-certified, awake, and on duty. That person must be able to intervene with residents until emergency services arrive.

A recognized, up-to-date CPR certificate is the way to meet this obligation; it is in addition to the staff's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
